The unparalleled beauty of New Zealand’s snowcapped mountains and majestic lowland plains attracts tourists year-round. Nature enthusiasts and culture seekers travel from around the world to enjoy breathtaking landscapes and native peoples’ carving, weaving, music, and dance. The Polynesian Māori were New Zealand’s first inhabitants, settling the islands as early as A.D. 1250. Today, this indigenous culture is deeply intermingled with British traditions stemming from nineteenth-century colonization. Governed as a parliamentary democracy, New Zealand is widely regarded as one of the world’s least corrupt nations. The people of this peaceful island place a high value on fairness, environmental stewardship, and diversity, creating a society that strives to welcome and care for people of all backgrounds.

Mental health remains one of New Zealand’s greatest challenges, with anxiety and depression rising rapidly among young people. Suicide rates remain a significant public health concern, disproportionately affecting men and Māori communities. Unstable families, domestic violence, and loneliness pervade many homes. These issues are worsened by alcohol misuse and growing methamphetamine addiction, which tear apart already vulnerable communities. Yet even amid growing indifference, God is slowly reintroducing Himself to New Zealand and meeting people in their hopelessness. Pentecostal and evangelical ministries are reviving old churches and planting new ones in growing urban centers. Christian organizations are entering university campuses, ready to awaken a new generation. Pray that God and His people would shine brightly in New Zealand amid cultural darkness.
